In March 2020, General Electric was named in ASPI’s report as one of at least 82 global brands whose supply chains were highly likely to contain Uyghur forced labour. ASPI’s research identified Hubei Yihong Precision Manufacturing Co as having utilised labour transfers of Uyghurs in 2018.

Hubei Yihong Precision Manufacturing Co is a subsidiary of Dongguan Yidong Electronic Co, which on its website listed General Electric as one of many brands it supplies directly to.

A spokesperson from General Electric said that the company has no record of ever having used Hubei Yihong or their subsidiary as a direct supplier. Hubei Yihong has taken down its company webpage since the publication of ASPI’s report.

Under conditions that strongly suggest forced labour, Uyghurs are working in factories that are in the supply chains of at least 82 well-known global brands in the technology, clothing and automotive sectors, including Apple, BMW, Gap, Huawei, Nike, Samsung, Sony and Volkswagen.
